Lake Wobegon® Brass Band Member
Name: Christian Ravndal
Instrument: B-Flat Cornet
Chris Ravndal has been teaching Middle School and Elementary Band in St. Anthony Village since January, 1991, and is the Executive Director of the Patriots Marching Band. A 1990 graduate of St. Olaf College and an M.A. candidate in Music Education at the University of Minnesota, Chris spent most of his band "growing up" years in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
He played under Miles Johnson at St. Olaf and studied trumpet with Tom Rolfs (St. Olaf) and David Baldwin (U of MN). Chris subbed on several different cornet parts during the LWBB's first two years and has been a first-call player since the third season.
He has also been a member of the Minnesota Symphonic Winds and founded the Up North Brass Quintet with Mike Legvold in 1991. Currently the Chair of the LWBB Steering Committee, he has also served in leadership roles in Minnesota Symphonic Winds, Minnesota Band Directors' Association and the National Band Association.
Chris and his wife, Heather, have two daughters (Keturah, 7, and Marley, 5) and a son (Brendon, 14 months).
Chris is a native of Orlando, FL and is the elder son of an Episcopal priest, and a hopelessly devout Milwaukee Brewers fan. Fortunately, his Norwegian ancestry, Minnesota Lutheran immigrant roots, St. Olaf College music education degree and 20-handicap on the golf course still sufficiently meet the (ahem) "cultural background check standards" for membership in the LWBB.
