Lake Wobegon® Brass Band Member

Name:  Heather Monthony
Instrument:  B-Flat Cornet

Cornet player Heather Monthony began her band career by playing trumpet in grade school.  Heather played in a majority of all-girl trumpet sections throughout high school and never realized that this might be unusual until she participated in the High School Jazz Contest one year.  The trumpet section approached the section judge to hear his review and found him so stunned to see four girls that he said, out loud, "Your ALL GIRLS and you are GOOD!"  It remains a matter of interpretation whether it was a compliment or not!

Heather attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where she studied biology and was a proud member of the St. Olaf Band for four years.  After graduating, she was swept off her feet by a charming fellow named Steve, who is now her husband.  Heather worked in environmental testing and list processing for several years before her current position as the full-time mother of a running, grinning 15-month old named Aurora.

In addition to the LWBB, Heather plays trumpet with the Bavarian Musikmeisters in vastly different attire.  You haven't lived until you've played trumpet all day in a dirndl!  When she isn't playing her horn, Heather enjoys gardening, bird watching, and playing games such as "pick up the sippy cup" and "where did baby put the car keys?"

Heather also enjoys a good book.  Recent reads include such literary masterpieces as "The Runaway Bunny" and "Yertle the Turtle."
